Plebotomy

So I have NO idea why I was so nervous when it came to actually tournequiting someone's arm, finding a vein and then puncturing it! I am now entirely obsessed with drawing blood! It is SO MUCH FUN!
After my first sucessful veinipucnture, I pretty much danced around the room high on plebotomy: ) It's just so smooth, kind of nerve racking, but still smooth!
Blood amazes me! You can tell so much about a person by their blood! Who they can donate to, who they can receive from, diseases they have, diseases they are succeptable to, have they done drugs recently, are they pregnant, are they intolerant of gluten, the list just goes on! It literally blows me away!
I will admit, though both punctures were successful, they both had pretty decent veins. That helps. I used a vaccutainer both times, and the first time used a tube without anti-coagulant, and the second time used a tube that contained anti-coagulant.
When it was time for my blood to be drawn, no one could find a vein. Even our instructor couldn't find one: ( He told me to get off the table and let the girl practice on someone else. Closer to the end of class, he asked if there was anyone who hadn't been stuck. I was the only one who raised my hand. I felt left out, so I said that someone had to take my blood! So one girl manned up and took the job! She ended up sucessfully drawing blood, and then gave me my souvineer: ) A vial of my blood. Which 24 hours later is still un-coagulated (thank you light-blue topped tube).
Yesterday was also my father's birthday, so naturally I called him right after class to tell him what his birthday present was! He very politely declined. But I told him that rightfully made 50% of me, therefor made 50% of my blood, so he HAD to take my blood vial. He still declined. I told him that I was probably even more than half of him because we share the same blood type! He still declined, and said it was because he didn't know what he would do with a blood vial. I told him I was going to make him a necklace from it. He was impressed, but still said it wasn't his 'thing.' I then asked him how many days there were until Mother's Day  >: )
SUPRISE MOM: )

And that concludes my first time drawing blood.
Tomorrow we learn how to take consecutive tubes of blood: )
